AMSTERDAM CLUBS

The scene: This is the main square where memories are made/lost. The streets'll hop until well after the 5am weekend closing time. Skip: Any club that actively recruits you to come inside is just for the (lesser) tourists. Posh picks like Jimmy Woo and Bungalow 8 generally have more attitude than actual fun. Hit up: Former factory the Melkweg and the awesome ex-church Paradiso rule the concert and clubbing scene here, while DJ fave the Sugarfactory is best known for its Sunday Wicked Jazz Parties. However, the slightly more intimate Club Up and Chicago Social Club are more and more where the local kids play.

You definitely need to check out one of Amsterdam’s biggest party scenes, Paradiso. It offers you a unique experience, since you will be kept up-to-date with the biggest names in the club music indiustry whilst finding yourself in an extraordinary venue that once used to be a church. It has a deep-rooted, great reputation, and has been open since 1968. Weteringschans 6-8, 1017 SG Amsterdam, Netherlands

This is the new club for hip kids in the city center. You will be startled by the surprising mix of music styles played in Disco Dolly, where you can enjoy some crazy dancing with all of your friends, no matter what their taste in music is. And if you want to mix up with some young and wild locals, this is surely the place to be! Handboogstraat 11 /HS, 1012 XM Amsterdam, Netherlands

Unlike the many underground clubs in Amsterdam, to reach this one you must climb seven floors (or simply take the lift, which is a recommended alternative if you’ve already attended a long pub crawl). You should not only visit this club for its spectacular panorama view, but also for its creative and intriguing mixture of a cocktail bar, art gallery and club all together. Enticing line ups are promised every night, with a fusion of hip-hop, dancehall and reggae. Wibautstraat 150, 1091 GR Amsterdam, Netherlands

For those of you who wish to escape the huge and crowded clubs, here is a more intimate, yet very popular, option. The club has an urbanny, jazzy vibe, perfect for fun and casual party nights. On Fridays, the weekly Struttin’ parties offer you the longest soul and funk nights in the city. Spuistraat 2 HS, 1012 TS Amsterdam, Netherlands

Although situated in the popular nightlife area Leidesplein, this night club is enshrouded from the most popular hangout spots in the area. Luckily, the long qeue will reveal this discretely located club. Club Up attracts a blend of different individuals with its mystic vibe and diverse mix of hip-hop, techno and house music. Keep an eye open for the nights of special events, when the club opens up for several Djs at once, spread across its two floors. Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 26-1, 1017 RC Amsterdam, Netherlands
